Oceanside Friends of the Arts - Board Member, VP of Scholarships & Grants

Kathleen Ossiander’s love of art began during her 17 years of service with the US Army. An Army-trained Graphics Illustrator, she produced military-themed comic strips and later became an instructor for the Graphics Course on Lowry AFB where she spent 4 years teaching and inspiring fellow artists in training.

Following her service Kathleen joined the civilian work force and focused on raising a family. An eventual move to scenic Oceanside reignited her artistic pursuits. Seeking new mediums, she studied under talented local watercolor artists, William Dunn and Charlotte Colosia.

She still works in watercolors and acrylics today, blending bold color palettes and realism-meets-impressionism to capture Oceanside’s natural beauty and vibrant beach culture. Her love for community, sea, and surfing is apparent in her paintings.

Her subjects often include curling waves, seaside scenes, sunsets, landmarks, and coastal flora and fauna.

“As I observe the inspiring landscapes around me, I challenge myself to recreate those images in a way that that evokes a similar emotion”.

A volunteer with Oceanside Friends of the Arts committee, Kathleen assists with production and promotion of Oceanside’s First Friday Art Walk. You can view her artworks there and at various pop up shows in San Diego county
